In order to keep the entries of moderate length I have divided History into that of the Philippines overall, for which there is a reasonably large amount of source material, and separately covered Palawan. Palawan is a special case not just because of its relevance to visitors to Port Barton, but also because of its geological separation from the mainstream Philippine islands and its relatively separate geography. Whilst it has evidence of very early occupation it seems to have maintained an isolated and frontier culture, and even recently has remained relatively undeveloped in comparison with other areas of the country.
